Make a Seek and Find Sensory Bin

By Chestermere Community Playschool February 22, 2024

During our holiday theme, we made a Seek and Find bin with leftover holiday paper, but you could add any number of different fillers to the sensory bin including:

  • paper from a paper shredder
  • dried beans/rice
  • yarn or fabric scraps
  • bits of bubble wrap

Any bin or container could be used for this activity.

On this day we added Jingle bells, letter magnets, and magnet wands, but you could also add a selection of small toys or other bits and bobs from around the house. There are lots of different learning opportunities with a sensory bin like this:

  • colour matching
  • find the letters in your name
  • difference between magnetic and non-magnetic items
  • object sorting by shape or size

We find sensory bins like this can be adapted to any theme or season and can be switched up by adding or taking away items. It can also be turned into a seeking game when it’s time to clean up. Where do the scraps of paper go? Can they be recycled or composted? If things were taken from around the house, can you find where they belong?

Our students loved this sensory bin and actively played with it all week!
