As a parent, it can be a little difficult to think of an idea for craft time. A great way to get ideas is to use your child's favourite story for inspiration.
There are so many ways to expand on story time!
You can...
- select images from the main events in the story and put them on cards. Then see if your child can retell the story in the correct order.
- make a mask or props from the story and act out your favourite parts.
- draw a picture of an alternate ending to the story
- Or like we did, recreate the main character during craft time.
This month we read Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberly. We cut out all the different pieces of the monster's face and then asked the students to make a Big Green Monster. We used glue sticks and construction paper. For younger kids who might not be able to sit long enough to make the whole face, you can glue together the different parts of the eyes to limit the number of steps needed to complete the face.
As you can see in the photo all the monsters looked a little bit different. We let the kids build their faces any way they like. We love the way they turned out!
