Spring brings our Insects theme. The kids are always so excited when the caterpillars arrive in our classroom. We love watching and learning about the butterfly life cycle.
Our craft this week goes along with these exciting guests. While colouring the butterflies, we encouraged the kids to try and make them symmetrical just like a real butterfly.
The next step was cutting out the four life phases: eggs, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly. The older class cut all around the whole strip and the younger class just snipped the pieces apart. To help guide the task we highlighted the lines for the kids to cut on.
We talked about the different phases and the kids were shown an example of the order to glue on the pieces, but we don't move the pieces if they are glued on in the wrong order.
We can't wait until our caterpillars turn into butterflies and we can let them go outside.
