The goal of this training is to increase safety for youth and create a network of safe adults youth can connect with in our community.

Where: Chestermere Rec Centre, MPP Room
How: Please register here
Over the past three years, the Chestermere and Area Community Coalition has surveyed nearly 1,700 Chestermere and area youth and conducted 13 focus groups to better understand what youth need to feel safe in their community - physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally. One thing we heard consistently is that they are looking for connection and support from trusted, reliable adults.
During this 2-hour training you will learn:
- Tips and strategies to build rapport and connect with youth in your life
- How to strengthen your soft skills
- How to engage in meaningful conversations with youth
- The importance of body language
- How to build trust and establish safety
- The benefits of mentorship
- How to support disclosures - who to involve, when to make referrals and how
- Tips on how to de-escalate situations
- Issues directly impacting our community
Sessions will be facilitated by local professionals, psychologists, and member of the Chestermere RCMP.
We will be holding a separate session for coaches and instuctors on Wednesday, November 13th and First Responders on Wednesday, November 20th. Following these workshops we will be hosting fun opportunities to engage and connect with youth, as well as additional trainings and workshops.
