November & December Programs at the Chestermere Library

Registration Opens October 31

October 19, 2023

Registration for these programs begins on October 30, 2023, at 10:00 am, and programs begin on November 6th. To register for these (or any other library program), please visit the library's website and click on the appropriate program on the calendar.

Family Literacy Programs

Drop-In Storytime 

Tuesdays & Fridays at 10:15 am. All ages 

No need to register for this Storytime designed with the whole family in mind. Everyone is welcome to join us for songs and stories.


PJ Storytime

Tuesdays at 6:15 pm. All Ages

Get ready for bed with the Chestermere Public Library and enjoy a bedtime story at the library. Wear your PJs, bring your blankets, and stuffies, and tuck in for a half hour of reading and fun.   No registration is required.


School Readiness

Wednesdays, 1:00 pm. Ages 4 - 5

This program is aimed towards young kids aged 4-5 to help build their confidence and independence before they go to school, with a variety of crafts, and activities. Parents are asked to stay in the library while the kids are in the program room.  Registration required.


Busy Bees

Wednesdays, 1:45 pm Age 3

Your child will grow and develop with a variety of activities, learning lessons, and crafts. Parents are asked to stay in the library while their busy bee is in the program room. Registration required.


Early Literacy Programs

Zumbini

Thursdays at 10:15 am. Ages 3 - 5

Think family dance party with Luna P.L.A.Y. Kids! Make your days brighter with this fun, music, and movement class where you are guaranteed to twinkle with sweat and joy. Sing, dance, and play as you bond with your child. No registration required.


Growing Minds

Thursdays at 1:15 pm. Age 2

Your child will grow and develop through play and a variety of activities!  This playgroup is exclusively for kids aged 2 and their parents and caregivers.  Registration required.


Drop-In Baby Storytime

Fridays at 10:15 am. Ages 0 - 18 months

Baby Storytime is for parents, caregivers, and babies 0-18 months. There are books, songs, and playing. Stay after for our Bibs, Burps, and Breaks at 10:45 am.  No registration is required.


After School Programs 

Parents must stay in the library during these programs if your child is under 8 years old. 


Chess

Mondays at 4:15 pm. Ages 6 - 12

Chess returns to the library! You are welcome to join us for this program, whether you are just learning or you’ve already been playing chess.  Registration required.


Reading Buddies

Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4:15 pm. Grades1 - 3

Join us for Reading Buddies to help facilitate reading and literacy. Teen volunteers are matched with early elementary students learning to read. We will provide an activity then the student is asked to pick a book to read with their buddy.   Registration required.


Kids Creative Club

Thursdays at 4:15 pm. Ages 6 - 12

Kids Creative Club is back on Thursdays this Fall! We will be alternating fine arts and crafts activities weekly.  Registration required.


Fun Family Fridays

Fridays at 3:15 pm. For families with children ages 6 - 12

Join us on Fridays for a program with the whole family in mind featuring a new activity, craft, or organization each week.  Registration is required for each person in the family including parents/guardians joining us.

  • November 10 - CTC Martial Arts. CTC Martial Arts provides high-level training in Taekwondo, Street Defense and physical fitness for ages 3 and up.  CTC Martial Arts will be at the library doing a demo and giving out information about their school!  No registration required.
  • November 17 - Snap Circuits. Get ready for an electrifying Fun Family Friday!  Learn the basics of electronics, and engineering, and build circuits with these fun click-in parts!  Registration Required.
  • November 24 - Science Experiments. Join us for some fun science experiments with things you have at home. Registration required.
  • December 1 - Fidget Keychains. Learn to make a fun fidget keychain using pony beads, a cord, and a keyring. Registration required.
  • December 8 - Mini Books. Add a touch of cuteness to your day, with these isty bitsy notebooks that you can write in. Perfect size for your wallet, pocket, or backpack.  Registration required.
  • December 15 - Mad Science Magnificent Magnets. Explore the invisible forces of magnets & their effects on different objects with Mad Science of Southern Alberta. Learn how electromagnets work & try their magnetic paperclip challenge.  Each participant will receive a Mad Science Magnet Lab to continue experimenting with forces after the program.  Registration required.

Teen Programs 

Graphic Novel and Manga Club (on Discord)

Every month, our program facilitator will choose a theme for books to discuss, any book that fits in the theme is welcome to be discussed throughout the month on our Discord. Join our Discord on our website. November’s theme is “Mythology” December’s theme is “Published in 2023”


Tween Board Games

Sundays, 12:30 - 1:30 pm. Ages 11 - 14

Bring all of your friends for board games at the library!  We have a variety of different games to play, or bring your own to play with others. Snacks and drinks will be provided during the program.  No registration required.


Tween Club

Sundays, 1:45 - 3:15 pm. Ages 11 - 14

Join us for a variety of different activities at the library each Sunday.  Snacks and drinks will be provided during the program.  No registration required.


Volunteer Reading Buddy

Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4:15 pm. Volunteers between grades 7-12.  

This program is a volunteer partnership to help facilitate reading and literacy in younger children. Become a buddy by contacting us at info@chestermerepubliclibrary.com.  In order to volunteer for the Reading Buddies program the following qualifications must be met: strong communication skills, ability to motivate and mentor children, strong literacy skills, reliable and positive attitude, and commitment to program dates.


Youth Corner

Thursdays at 5:00 pm on Specified Dates. Ages 11-14.

Join Trellis Society on November 30th and December 21st to learn fun ways to manage your stress!  On November 30th, “wreck a journal” and on December 21st, make slime and discuss regulation techniques. Register with Trellis at strathmorefrn@growwithtrellis.ca


Teen Volunteer Experience

Library Board Meeting 

Monday, November 20th at 6:00 pm.  

Get involved in the Library by joining our board for their meeting. These meetings are open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend. The library board has 9 meetings throughout the year and have a break during the summer. Please contact the library for more information.


English Language Learning 

Tuesdays at 10:15 am 

Come practice your English in a group with others and the South Central Adult Learning Society. Discussions and activities will be aimed at beginner speakers but will adapt to the level of the group.  No registration is required.


Baby Talk 

Mondays from 1:30  - 3:00 pm

Parents / Caregivers with babies 0-12 months old.   Join the Library, City of Chestermere, Healthy Families, Alberta Health Services, and  Chestermere Parent and Caregiver Support Services for free drop-in programs for caregivers with babies 0-12 months. Connect with fellow parents and service provides in your community. Each week features a different topic for discussion. Find the full calendar on our website.  No registration is required.


Adult Creative Club

5:30 pm. Join us for our adult crafts! There will be two crafts each month at the library all materials provided. Registration is required.

  • November 15 - Painted Vinyl Record Workshop Join us in creating a work of art using a vinyl record as your canvas.  You can be as creative as you like using acrylic paints as your medium.
  • November 29 - Marbled Ink Coasters Stay cosy on cold winter days with a warm drink and a splash of colour. Create your own one-of-a-kind set of marbled ink coasters.
  • December 13 - Painted Mandala Ornament Welcome your inner calm and creativity as you try your hand at painted mandalas. Add your own unique personal touch to a hanging ornament.

Basic Computers

Wednesdays at 10:15 pm

Join South Central Adult Learning Society for this 8 week program.   Bring your laptop and your questions and join us for computer basics.  Many beginner topics will be covered such as computer lingo, using email,  internet searching and more.  If are you new to computer use or a beginner learner, this class is for you.  Registration required. Please call or visit the library if you need help registering.


Yoga 

Thursdays at 12:00 pm 

Join our mindful yoga series where we will explore yogic breath techniques, gentle movement, and guided relaxation. This class supports increased connection between breath, mind, and body.  It is a great low-intensity midday reset for your nervous system. This 45-minute class is suitable for adults and older adults of any experience level. *Please bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Registration required.


Bibs, Burps, and Breaks 

Fridays at 10:45 am  

Join us after Baby Storytime for some time to chat with other parents and caregivers in the community. Children are welcome to play as parents and caregivers chat. We will have refreshments and snacks available.  No registration required.

We gather all kinds of local family events and activities each week and add useful information about classes, family-focused local businesses, recipes, crafts, school and camp guides and more.
