Chestermere Community Playschool: Meet our Teachers

By Chestermere Community Playschool May 11, 2023

Our exceptionally qualified, enthusiastic and caring teachers are the heart of our play-based preschool program.  Here are Ms Jenn and Ms Emily to tell you all about themselves!

Ms Jenn

Hi everyone, I'm Ms Jenn! I have been teaching at the Preschool since 2019. Before that, I worked as a Child Development Facilitator. I have 5 years of experience in that position specializing in behaviour, speech/language development as well as fine and gross motor development.

I'm an Alberta native and have lived in the Calgary area since I was 10 years old. Now I live in Langdon with my husband, two kids (13 and 16 years) and our two dogs. As a family, we love camping, fishing and playing board games. I have many years of experience volunteering in my community as a Girl Guide leader and at my kid’s schools.

Ms Emily and I are such a great team! We love working together to create a safe and fun space for your kids to learn.

Ms Emily

Hi! I’m Emily Fitzgerald - Ms Emily to the students and Mommy to my own two boys! I graduated from Mount Royal University with my Bachelor of Applied Child Studies Degree as well as my Child Development Supervisor (Level 3) Certification. I started teaching at the Playschool in September of 2013.

There are a number of things I love about my job, but one of my favourite things about teaching at the Playschool is the gym and outdoor time! I am an active person, so I love that we have the opportunity every day to work on our gross motor skills while also burning off a little energy at the same time :) I truly love my job and feel so lucky to make special connections with the students and their families!

We think that preschool is beneficial for young kids because it is often the first time kids are in a program away from parents and it gives them the opportunity to interact with a group of children their own age. In our 3-year-old classes, we introduce skills like sharing, taking turns and standing in a line.

Our 4-year-old program is a little different because this is when we start working towards Kindergarten readiness. The skills we are working on include;  raising their hand before talking, following the class routine and recognizing their name. We also encourage independence in personal skills, for example opening their own snacks, putting on their coats and asking for help when needed. We truly love our job and feel so lucky to make special connections with the students and their families.

One-on-one tours are available to meet the teachers and see our location.  Visit our website for more information, and to register early to secure your spot!
