The Chestermere Country Fair is not until Saturday, September 9, 2023, but now's the time to start planning your Red Ribbon entries! There is a wide range of categories that children (and adults) may enter from your best-baked brownies, and cinnamon rolls, to tallest sunflowers bouquet of bee-friendly flowers, cucamelons, garlic, crooked carrot, weaving, knitting, sewing, felting, dyeing, photography, colouring, painting, loom crafts, diamond paintings, painted rocks and so much more!
The Red Ribbon Competition is also known as a bench show. A bench show is a term used to describe classes in sewing, handicrafts, cooking, artwork and photography that usually take place during a fair or another community event, often alongside a horticultural show or seed show. First, second and third-place ribbons are awarded in each class, and trophies are also awarded based on points accumulated.
For 2023 the Country Fair committee undertook a massive re-write of the Red Ribbon classes to refresh the Red Ribbon competition. One new addition this year is a Red Ribbon theme. This year's theme is sunflowers, and throughout the Red Ribbon classes, you will see specially marked classes that must follow this theme. The theme will change every year.
Another fun addition is the "Thrift Flip". Take a ho-hum charity find and turn it into a unique new outfit with just a few tweaks and some imagination.
There are over 370 different classes for adults and children to enter, so what are you waiting for? Check out the complete list of classes on the Rocky View Chestermere Agricultural Society website ( www.rvcagsociety.ca).
