Chestermere Community Playschool: Meet our Teachers

By Chestermere Community Playschool March 31, 2022

Chestermere Community Playschool's exceptionally qualified, enthusiastic and caring teachers are the heart of our play-based preschool program.  Here are Ms Jenn and Ms Emily to tell you all about themselves!

Hi! I'm Ms Jenn. I have been teaching at Chestermere Community Playschool for 3 years, but I was a Child Development Specialist in the classroom for 5 years before that. I'm an Alberta native and have lived in the Calgary area since I was 10 years old. I now live in Langdon with my husband, two kids (12 and 15 years) and our two dogs. As a family, we love camping, fishing and playing board games. I have many years of experience volunteering in my community as a Girl Guide leader and at my kid's schools.

Hi! I’m Ms Emily. I started teaching at the Playschool in September of 2013. Before that, I was the Daycamp Coordinator and then a Leader for the Before and After School Care Program in the Rec Centre. I graduated from Mount Royal University with my Bachelor of Applied Child Studies Degree as well as my Child Development Supervisor Certification. My husband and I moved to Calgary from Ontario in 2007 and now have 2 little boys (4 and 18 months) that keep us very busy!

We are a great teaching team because Ms Emily loves gym time and taking the kids outside and Ms Jenn loves to do crafts and set up dramatic play centres for the children.

We both love to read books to the kids, but our favourites to read together are Elephant and Piggy books by Mo Willems!

We think that preschool is beneficial for young kids because it is often the first time kids are in a program away from parents and it gives them the opportunity to interact with a group of children their own age. In our 3-year-old classes, we introduce skills like sharing, taking turns and standing in a line.

Our 4-year-old program is a little different because this is when we start working towards Kindergarten readiness. The skills we are working on include;  raising their hand before talking, following the class routine and recognizing their name. We also encourage independence in personal skills, for example opening their own snacks, putting on their coats and asking for help when needed. We truly love our job and feel so lucky to make special connections with the students and their families.

One-on-one tours are available to meet the teachers and see our location.  Visit our website for more information, and to register early to secure your spot!

Registrations for the 2022/23 school year are now being accepted. The Chestermere Community Playschool is excited to participate in the new Affordability Grant and subsidy program, making quality, play-based preschool more accessible to all the families in Chestermere.

You may always find more information about their program, teachers, subsidies, and registration on their website.
