The Imagination Library of Chestermere launched in April 2021 by two local community volunteers, with the help of Synergy. The coordinators are currently in the process of securing sponsorships to fund the program. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a free, early literacy program that delivers age-appropriate books to all children ages 0 to five years old each month. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library promotes a love of reading and learning!
Encouraging the love of reading and learning early in a child’s life helps to develop strong literacy skills. Statistics and independent reports have shown Dolly Parton's Imagination Library drastically improves early childhood literacy and enhances kindergarten readiness. Children read more when they have books at home!
A follow-up study, released in August 2015, compared the "kindergarten readiness" of children who participated in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for at least three or four years of the program vs. children who did not participate. The results showed a 28.9% increase in the number of children who were prepared for kindergarten based on this measure.
Sponsors are required
There are an estimated 2,500 children in Chestermere between the ages of 0 - 5. The Imagination Library of Chestermere's goal is to have at least 300 children registered by the end of 2021. Sponsorship is only $42.60 per child, per year. If you would like more information please email chestermereimagionationlibrary@gmail.com.
If there are more children registered than funds available, those children will be placed on a waiting list and will start receiving books as soon as additional funds are secured. Sponsoring one child makes a great birthday, shower or Christmas present!
