April Programs from Parent & Caregiver Support Services

The new Parent & Caregiver Support Services (PCSS) is a program under the Government of Alberta’s Family Resource Network (FRN) model.  The PCSS team provides a variety of free, community-based resources, services, and learning opportunities, specifically designed for parents and caregivers with children ages 0-13.

April Grow & Learn Sessions:

Our virtual Grow & Learn sessions are 60-90 minutes in length and feature a presentation, discussion, or exercise on a popular parenting topic (for example healthy eating, sleep routines, resiliency, or mindfulness). Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions and will walk away with valuable knowledge, resources, and information about local programs and services. 

Session #1: Choosing Quality Childcare (Wednesday, April 22nd from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.)

Information: If you're currently looking for childcare you won't want to miss out on this session. Learn all about what you need to look for when researching quality daycare or dayhome options for your child, and get your questions answered. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

Session #2:  Fostering a Multicultural Lens in Children (Wednesday, April 28th from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m.)

Information: Join us for an interactive conversation with a social worker from Action Dignity! Learn some of the easy ways to introduce diversity, race, and equality to our children.  Helpful resources and ideas for parents will be shared including suggestions about which toys, books, and shows families can enjoy to help spark important discussions, and foster a multicultural lens in children as young as 6 months of age. Baby Talk 

This community-based program is designed for moms, dads, grandparents, and babies up to 12 months of age. Connect with other parents while learning about different topics and areas related to your baby's development Hosted virtually with one of our Caregiver Support Facilitators, different parenting and/or developmental topics and resources are presented each week, along with time for questions and answers.

  • Monday, April 19th - Language & Development: How to encourage speech, and language development, and the importance of early literacy. 
  • Monday, April 26th - Your Baby's Eye HealthConnect with an eye doctor who will share information about your baby's vision, and when to book their first eye exam.
  • Monday, May 3rd - Dental Health: Join us to learn from our Community Oral Health Specialist who will discuss the importance of oral health in babies, toddlers, and young children.
  • Monday, May 10th - Feeding Baby Part 1:  Introducing solid foods with the Community Dietitian.
  • Monday, May 17th - Feeding Baby Part 2: How to make homemade baby food with the Community Dietitian.
  • Monday, May 24th - Statutory holiday, NO SESSION
  • Monday, May 31st - Baby Cues & Attachment: Bond with your baby by understanding, recognizing, and responding to your baby’s cues. 
  • Monday, June 1st - Sleep & Bedtime Routines: Up all night? How to create healthy bedtime routines. 

Positive Parenting Workshop – Raising Resilient Children

 (Wednesday, April 21st from 6:00 - 7:30pm)

Information: How can you help your child manage their emotions so they cope well with disappointment and in stressful situations? Learn strategies that will allow them to recognize positive and negative emotions and deal with them in a healthy way. Get your very own workshop package when you register! After completing a registration form families will receive an email with instructions on where to pick-up their workshop package. We will include materials that can be referenced after the workshop is over, as well as helpful parenting resources that our Caregiver Support Facilitators recommend.

Circle of Security®  

(Thursdays from 1:30 - 3:00 pm starting on April 22nd and running until June 10th, 2021)

Information: Parent & Caregiver Support Services (PCSS) will be teaming up with the Chestermere/Strathmore Trellis Family Resource Network (FRN) to deliver this program. The Circle of Security® is an 8-week, relationship-based program that is based on more than 50 years of ongoing research. Using a program workbook, parents will be introduced to a road map to help understand and respond to their child's needs, and enhancing the attachment they have with their child.
