Parent Link February Updates - Funding, Program Updates and more

By Kidz 1st Network Parent Link Centre January 30, 2020

Funding Update

Great news! The City of Chestermere has submitted its application for funding under the Government of Alberta’s new Well-Being & Resiliency Framework. As the province reviews the applications, we hope to be engaged in program development discussions with the province sometime between February 17 – March 20. We have applied to become a hub service provider for the region and would offer a variety of community-based, inclusive family resource services and programs for parents, children (0-18), and families in Chestermere, South East Rocky View, Strathmore and Wheatland County. We will continue to share updates as information is available and are optimistic that we will begin our new programming as of April 1.

Until then, it will be business as usual as our current programs and services are still funded and scheduled to run until the end of March. If you have any questions or concerns, you are welcome to speak with us in person or by calling (403) 207-7050 or by emailing us at plcinfo@chestermere.ca.

With Parent Link Centre programs coming to an end in March, we’d like to welcome families to attend our regular line-up of drop-in and registered programs to meet others in the community, gain knowledge about early childhood development, and parenting, collect resources, and have fun in our fully-equipped play space! We will also be featuring the following events and a Positive Parenting Support Group.

1. Positive Parenting Support Group (Triple P)

Location: Chestermere Parent Link Time: 2:30 - 4:00 pm Dates: Wednesdays from February 19th - March 11th

Register for our free, 4-week Parent Support Group. Each session is 1.5-hours in length and provides opportunities for parents to learn through observation, discussion, practice and feedback. DVD segments are used to demonstrate positive parenting skills. These skills are then practised in small groups. Parents receive constructive feedback about their use of skills in an emotionally supportive context. Between sessions, parent’s complete homework tasks to consolidate their learning from the group sessions. Please call (403) 207-7050 to register. Free childcare and snacks are provided (limited spots available).

2. Family Day Unplugged

Date: Monday, February 17th Time: 1:00 - 4:00pm Location: Chestermere Rec Centre  Cost: FREE

Join the PLC, the Chestermere Recreation Centre, the Formative 5 Early Childhood Coalition, and other local service providers and businesses to celebrate Family Day and PLAY! Learn how important it is in building your child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and language skills, and try out the many fun and engaging activities that involve the entire family to promote connection and learning! Motivention Inc. will be facilitating a Play Challenge with 300+ boxes, and the Lions Club will be serving up a chilli lunch. Entry Requirement: Please bring a BOX (one per child) box per child.

3. Looking Back & Moving Forward - A Parent Link Centre Celebration

Date: Wednesday, March 18th Time: 4:30 - 7:30 pm Location: Chestermere Parent Link

A community gathering for the Parent Link Centre to say farewell and thank you to the community for all of your support, and participation in our programs and services over the years.  The Kidz 1st Network PLC has been a fixture in the community for over 13 years, and we’ve had the pleasure of watching our community grow and flourish. For all families, community members, agencies and service providers we’ve had the pleasure of connecting with, and getting to know, we hope you’ll join us for a celebration of our past accomplishments and explore what the future has in store for programs and services.
