Learn to Skate - Polar Bears & Penguins Program

Classes are offered Tuesdays OR Thursdays / 30 Mins. / 12 Wks Jan 28/30 - Apr 28/30 All skaters are required to have properly fitting skates and CSA approved helmet. PARENTS & CUBS - PARENTED (AGES 2 - 6)
A great starting point for young skaters. Parents and skaters learn to work together while developing balance, movement! No child skating experience
necessary. Max 15. Tuesdays 9:30 a.m. OR Thursdays 12:30 p.m.

POLAR BEAR 2 FOR NEXT LEVEL SKATERS
Building on skills developed in Cubs and Polar Bear 1, skaters will learn to move both forwards and backwards while developing basic skills including stopping, gliding and turning. Skaters will be introduced to intermediate foundational skills such as crossovers, side stops, edges and more. Max 10.
Tuesdays 10:30 a.m. OR Thursdays 1:30 p.m.

POWER PENGUINS FOR FUTURE HOCKEY & RINGETTE PLAYERS
An introduction to the skating skills and technique needed for hockey and ringette. Skaters will interact with pucks and rings at a basic level while learning correct stance and stick grasp, and be introduced to stride technique, turns and drills. Full gear including gloves and a stick are required. Pre-requisite: Polar Bear 2 or be able to demonstrate equal skating ability. Max 12. Tuesdays 1 p.m. OR Thursdays 10 a.m.

PENGUINS ON ICE FOR FUTURE FIGURE SKATERS
An introduction to the skating skills, jumps and spins performed in figure skating. Skaters will learn basic skating elements such as edges, waltz jumps, 2 foot
spins and more! Skaters will also learn a short group number that will be performed on the final day of classes. Pre-requisite: Polar Bear 2 or be able to demonstrate equal skating ability. Max 10. Tuesdays 1:30 p.m. OR Thursdays 10:30 a.m.

GAMES GALORE ON ICE
We're just here to have fun! This 30 minute program is packed full of games, toys and things to make your skater smile. From old favourites like Mr. Wolf
and Red Light Green Light to new experiences such as treasure hunts on ice, ball games and more, this program will have skaters enjoying every minute on the ice. Pre-requisite: Polar Bear 2 or be able to demonstrate equal skating ability. Max 15.Thursdays 2 p.m.

HOMESCHOOL SKATING LESSONS (AGES 7 - 12)
Tuesdays / 2:30 p.m. / 1 Hour / 12 Wks Jan 28/30 - Apr 28/30
This program is geared towards school-age participants. Skaters will learn foundational skating skills in an age-appropriate environment that stresses participation, correct technique and fun. Max 12.
Members: $180 / Non-Members: $205

ADAPTIVE LEARN TO SKATE (AGES 3 - 6)
Introducing children with special needs to the joy of skating. Must be accompanied by an adult or caregiver. Max 10.

PRIVATE SKATING LESSONS FOR ALL AGES
Private lessons are a great way to engage a shy or special needs child, work on specific skills, learn more advanced skills or simply enjoy skating with a certified coach outside of a group environment. It's a great opportunity for adult learners to learn in a quiet, safe environment. Skaters will work at their level to develop their skating skills and abilities. Classes can focus on foundational skills, hockey/ringette skills, power skating, figure skating – the choice is yours!

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • CRCA Memberships: $55 /single or $80/family.
  • Financial assistance is available through KidsSport and JumpStart.
  • CRCA Memberships run from July 1 to June 30 each year and are open to everyone in and outside the City of
    Chestermere. CRCA memberships are available for purchase online, in the Main Office or on Energizer Nights.
  • Registration deadline for all programs is one week prior to start date.
  • The CRCA reserves the right to cancel classes that do not fill to minimum requirements prior to start date.
  •  If the facility cancels a program or makes a date or time adjustment that a client cannot commit to, a full reimbursement will be issued. A $25 admin fee for any program withdrawls prior to the start date of the program. There are no refunds after the start date of a program unless approved by the Program Supervisor or General Manager. These will be considered on an individual basis. Medical refunds (w/doctor's note) will be pro-rated based on number of classes left. If a refund is approved after the start date, any expenses incurred by the CRCA for items such as program supplies or uniforms, will be subject to an additional fee.
