Tell us a bit about your business:  Hello, my name is Sarah and I am the owner of Thea-Bel.  We started back in 2016 when my love of marketing and supporting small businesses combined to create a company where I help Alberta hobbyists sell their unique handmade items.  It turns out that not everyone enjoys marketing as much as I do!  I work on commissions and help get items out to the public that might never otherwise be seen. It truly is incredible what the people living in your neighbourhood can create! New items are always arriving so make sure you check back often. Because I need the items my wonderful creators want to sell on hand for me to actually sell them we are in the unique position of being able to source multiple products created by multiple people and put everything into one box quickly.  That means that unlike many of the other online directories, we can save you money and time as everything goes through one person; me.  I am here to make your shopping experience as easy as possible.

Why did you decide to start this business? 

I was on maternity leave with my daughter and had the idea for Thea-Bel.  I love selling items, had some time and had always wanted to start my own company.  The timing just seemed right.

What was the most difficult part of starting your business? 

While I have a lot of marketing experience, not a lot of it transferred to the selling of handmade items.  It has been a bit of a learning curve but overall very enjoyable.  

What do you love about your business?

I get first dibs on all the amazing new items as they arrive... It is so many little things.  Being able to watch the company grow and have control over the hours I work and the direction I want to take my company.  

How do you balance work and family life?

It is a continual struggle.  I really enjoy my work (both jobs as I do work a day job as well) but family is super important to me.  With a three-year-old wanting to play and another child on the way, it is important to focus on what is important and acknowledge that I can't do everything.

Do you have any advice to give other supermoms?

I think it is important to acknowledge that there really is no such thing as a "super mom". While we may have one area of our life organized, we still have the same amount of time and struggles as every mom.  Focus on your life and make sure you are giving yourself credit for all the amazing things you are accomplishing right now.
